thank you!

We are thrilled so many churches participated in our National Study of Disability and Ministry.

about the project

The purpose of this research project was to explore the current landscape of disability and ministry, as well as its impact within the church. We interviewed 200 people from 48 states who were actively involved in leading intentional ministries at their church. This included leading a formal disability ministry, a church’s accessibility committee, or other active efforts to include or support people with disabilities and their families. Likewise, we heard from church leaders who themselves have disabilities.

the interview

Participation involved two surveys and an 60-90 minute interview. The interview covered the following topics:

  • What their church is doing in this area and why

  • The complexities and considerations when undertaking this area of ministry

  • The impact it is having on people with disabilities and/or their families

  • The impact it is having on the entire church

  • Their recommendations and needs as leaders in this work

sharing our findings

We have designed this project to inform and advance the work of churches, parachurch organizations, and Christian denominations that are striving to increase inclusion and belonging for people with disabilities and their families. Participants will receive a summary of the major findings. They will also be invited to attend future online forums in which we share back key insights and recommendations from this project.

In the months ahead, we will post our findings on this website. So check back often.
